JEE Main Exam Pattern 2020

National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for prescribing the JEE Main Exam Pattern 2020. This time, the authority has also introduced new changes in the pattern. Candidates who have applied for the January session can check it in the information brochure or from below. The exam pattern generally contains information about the entrance exam and question paper. Therefore, it is essential for students who are going to take the exam to be familiar with the exam pattern of JEE Main 2020. Applicants are advised to check the exam pattern beforehand. JEE Main will consist of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. The exam is scheduled to held from 6th to 11th January.


New Changes Introduced by NTA in JEE Main 2020 Exam Pattern

  • There will be 75 questions which in Paper of B.Tech which means 25 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics 

  • Further, 5 questions will have numerical value answers and the rest 20 questions will be objective type.
  • Negative marking is applicable only for objective type questions. 
  • While Paper 2 is separate for B.Arch and B.Planning 
  • There will be 2 questions in the drawing section and it will be of 100 marks instead of 70. 
  • Paper 2 will be of total 400 marks. 

Details regarding JEE Main Exam Pattern 2020

The exam pattern includes each and every detail related to the exam. The details include examination mode, time of exam, marks distribution, number of questions, language, etc. All those who are willing to sit in the exam can take a look at the new exam pattern beneath.

Paper 1 (For B.Tech/B.E)
  • Mode of Examination – It is a computer-based test. 
  • Duration – The exam will be held for 3 hours
  • Language of the Paper - The question paper will be in English as well as the Hindi language 
  • Subjects – The question paper will contain questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics 
  • Total Number of Questions – There will be 25 questions of each subject. Hence, the exam will consist of 75 questions in total. 
  • Type of Questions – 20 questions from each subject will be of objective type and 5 questions will be numerical value answers. 
  • Total Marks of Exam – The exam will be of total 300 marks. 
  • Marking The scheme – 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. However, for numerical value answers, there will be no negative marking.

Paper 2 (For B.Arch)
  • Mode of Examination – It is a computer-based test but the Drawing Test will be conducted through offline mode on A4 size sheet. 
  • Duration – The exam will be held for 3 hours 
  • Language of the Paper - The question paper will be English as well as Hindi language 
  • Subjects – The paper of B. Arch will contain questions from Mathematics, General Aptitude and Drawing while paper of B.Plan will contain questions from Mathematics, General Aptitude, and Planning 
  • Total Number of Questions – In B.Arch paper, there will be 25 questions of Mathematics, 50 questions of Aptitude and 2 questions of Drawing. Whereas in B.Plan paper, there will be 25 questions of Mathematics, 50 questions of Aptitude and 25 questions of Planning. 
  • Type of Questions – 20 questions of Mathematics for both B. Arch and B.Plan will be objective type and rest 5 will be numerical value answers. Moreover, for other subjects such as Aptitude and Planning, the questions will be of objective type only. 
  • Total Marks of Exam – The exam will be of total of 400 marks. 
  • Marking The scheme – 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. However, for numerical value answers, there will be no negative marking.

JEE Main Answer Key

National Testing Agency (NTA) will publish online JEE Main Answer Key after the conclusion of an entrance exam. Candidates who are going to take the January session exam can access the key by logging into the official website. An answer key will contain all the correct responses to the questions that will be asked in the examination. Using it, applicants can calculate their probable score and, hence, predict their performance. Moreover, the calculation should be done on the basis of the marking scheme. Applicants can further raise objections against the JEE Main 2020 answer key if they find any discrepancy in it.



Releasing Date of Answer Key – January Attemp

  • Check some of the important dates related to JEE Main 2020 events below: 
  • Date of Examination - 6th to 11th January 2020 
  • Releasing of Preliminary Answer Key - 3rd week of January 2020 (Tentative) 
  • Releasing of Final Answer Key – 4th week of January 2020 (Tentative) 
  • Announcement of Result - 31st January 2020 
   

Steps to download an Answer Key

The exam conducting body will publish an answer key in online mode. Therefore, those who need to download it for evaluating their expected score can follow the below-mentioned steps:
  • Visit the official website of JEE Main. 
  • Search for the answer key link on the window and click on it. 
  • Now enter the application number and date of birth. 
  • Click the “Submit” button once you have entered the above details. 
  • JEE Main Answer Key will appear on the screen in the form of a PDF.

Raising of Objection

Students can raise objections against the key in case of any doubt or error. For raising an objection, they also need to pay a certain amount. Note that NTA will accept the objections for a given duration. If the objection raised is true then candidates will get their amount back. Further, after taking into consideration all the objections the final answer key will be published by the authority.

Calculation of Score using an Answer Key

The most essential feature of an answer key is that it allows applicants to calculate their approximate score. By knowing the score, they even get an idea regarding the colleges that will accept their score. The procedure to calculate the score using an answer key is as follows:
  • Firstly, download the JEE Main Answer Key 2020. 
  • Now start comparing your answers to the correct answers mentioned in the key. 
  • Assign marks according to the marking scheme 
  • Calculate the total number of correct and incorrect response. 
  • Lastly, use the following formula to calculate the score 

JEE Main Score = Total number of Correct Response x 4 – Total number of Inccorect Response x1

JEE Main Marking Scheme 2020

While calculating the score using an answer key, applicants should follow the marking scheme as prescribed by the exam regulating authority. Students can check the marking scheme in the following points:
  • Correct Answer – 4 marks will be awarded 
  • Incorrect Answer – 1 mark will be deducted 
  • No Answer – No marks 
  • More than One Answer – 1 mark will be deducted

JEE Main Admit Card 2020 Download

JEE Mains Eligibility Criteria 

Aspirant must know eligibility criteria for JEE Mains before apply for the exam. It will give you idea whether you are eligible or not eligible for the test.

Qualification-Candidates must have passed their 12th exams or its equivalent from a recognized board or university.

Age limit criteria - There is no age limit for JEE Mains.

Qualifying Subjects - Candidate in their 12th level must have passed with at least of five mandatory subjects – Physics, Mathematics along with anyone from the Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology or any other technical vocational.

Total Attempt - There will be no attempt limit to apply for this test.
JEE Mains Application Form

All aspirants are requested to fill each and every detail correct in the JEE Main Application Form. In the application form you have to upload various documents like a scanned copy of Signature, Category certificate, Scanned copy of photograph etc in the prescribed format.
JEE Mains Admit Card

Admit Card is the most important identity to appear in this exam. No one can get an entry in the examination hall without Admit Card. JEE Mains Admit Card will release in the month of December. The official dates for JEE Main Admit Card 2020 download is not declared yet. The conducting Authorities will release Admit Card for this exam in online mode.
